Star Wars 7 Set To Invade IMAX for 4 Weeks

SW7

Star Wars: The Force Awakens is set to get a very massive box office opportunity as they secure IMAX screens everywhere!

Now as we all knew Star Wars: The Force Awakens would be screening in IMAX theaters but what we did not know was that the film would be there for an unusually longer time than most films. According to THR, the film will be featured on all IMAX’s North American screens and most of it’s international screens to itself when it makes it’s big premiere in mid-December, and it will be staying on the IMAX screens for four weeks.

IMAX isn’t really known for making these kinds of deals with movies, and the last time that they made a deal like this was for The Hobbit films. However, Star Wars is a humongous cash cow and IMAX wouldn’t want to miss out on an interesting opportunity to rake in some money. Especially considering the fact that one of the scenes in the upcoming film was shot in IMAX. Now it is not currently known how much money they’ll be taking to the bank but it’s estimated that the film will beat a record previously set by Jurassic World, which made 44.2 million internationally from IMAX screens. If every single IMAX screen in the world has Star Wars and everyone loves Star Wars, it’s pretty logical to say that Force Awakens will most definitely break several records within just four weeks or less.

There is a negative to Star Wars’ IMAX domination and for so long as it will be though. Other films are going to get overshadowed. Spectre and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay-Part 2 have IMAX dates in November and would probably have been on their way out by the time Force Awakens comes in. The one movie that may get a big smack in the face though is Ron Howard’s In The Heart of The Sea, which is only getting a one week run with IMAX before it gets the boot. Let’s not forget that several fans wanted to see the beautiful cinematography of The Revenant in IMAX will now have to possibly wait until a week after it comes out internationally, and even then it’s very likely that it will not beat Star Wars because it will be keeping it’s control on IMAX and have a tight grip on the box office.
