‘Swamp Thing’ Series in Development For DC’s New Digital Streaming Service

DC’s upcoming digital streaming service simply titled ‘DCUniverse‘ is possibly green-lighting a Swamp Thing series! The official Twitter account of DC Comics has tweeted earlier today that they plan to develop a Swamp Thing series with James Wan being attached to the project. Swamp Thing is being set for a 2019 release date on DC Universe, the new and upcoming streaming service which is set to launch later this year, which will also include the releases of upcoming shows Titans, Outsiders, Harley Quinn, and the animated series Young Justice. The live-action ‘Metropolis‘ series which was set to focus on Lois Lane and the villainous Lex Luthor is now being redeveloped.

The series will be a one-hour long drama will focus on Abby Arcane, a CDC researcher who returns to her hometown of Houma, Louisiana in order to investigate a swamp-born virus. She befriends and develops a bond with scientist Alec Holland, only to have him tragically taken from her. As powerful forces descend on Houma, intent on exploiting the swamp’s mysterious properties for their own purposes, Abby will discover that the swamp holds mystical secrets, and the potential love of her life may not be dead after all.

Created by Len Wein and Bernie Wrightson, Swamp Thing will be written by Mark Verhedein and Gary Dauberman, who will also be executive producers on the show. James Wan and Michael Clear will also executive produce under Wan’s ‘Atomic Monster‘ banner. This won’t be the first time Swamp Thing has appeared on TV or in other media. Aside from having appearances on a few DC shows and animated films, USA Network aired a live-action Swamp Thing series in the 1990’s which spanned for three seasons, and the live-action films from the 1980’s respectively, with Wes Craven writing and directing the 1982 movie. The new series is set to premiere for a 2019 release date, so stay tuned for more updates!
