On September 1, 2018, Mexicali held it’s 10th ‘OtakuDay‘ anime convention. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to stick around for the entire convention as I left early on, but I did manage to take pictures of cosplayers, vendors, and events within the convention such as a dance competition. I filmed a bit of the convention, and a video can be found here.

There was some talent at the convention, such as ‘Kidavi Arte & Pintura‘ (Kidave Art & Paint) who brought some of her artwork to sell at the convention. Above is some of her art, and you can see more of her work at her Facebook page which you can visit by clicking here. There was plenty more to offer at the booths such as an animation workshop and a table located at a corner of the room which was for people to play card games.

VENDORS

There were a few manga and comic book vendors at the event. Above is one of the local sellers of manga, comics, and collectible stores in Mexicali called ‘Mapy World‘ and you can check out their Facebook page here.

There were more vendors who sold manga and comics; heck, they even sold trade paperbacks and compilations, and also vendors who sold posters, stickers, pins, pillows, backpacks, bags, notebooks, and more! Below are some pictures of said merchandise.

There was even a booth set up by people who made props and replicas such as Captain America’s shield, Link’s Master Sword and Hylian Shield, Cloud’s Buster Sword, and more!

We also have this design team who make suits, clothes, pajamas, apparel, posters, and other goodies! They’re available in any size and the name of their local store is called ‘Daikokuten Anime Store‘ and their Facebook page is available here. They are located at the Tianguis Las Palmas in Mexicali, B.C.

Below is a picture of what they were selling at their booth

COSPLAYERS

Now time to post some pictures I took of a few cosplayers.

Well, that’s pretty much it. I didn’t get to cover the whole thing, as I was only there in attendance for a bit under three hours. This was my first convention outside of the US and there wasn’t much of a difference. Everyone is super chill and the atmosphere was neat, the cosplayers were great and I did enjoy seeing some items that were on sale. I couldn’t cover everything as I stated previously, but I did manage to film a bit. Below is the video where you can see some of the booths and a dance competition.
