Amid the global pandemic that has been the Coronavirus, or Covid 19, conventions, tv sets, film production, and red carpets have all been put on hold as the virus is proving to be the bane of the Industry’s very existence. The most recent project to fall victim of these delays is none other than the next entry of the Marvel Cinematic Universe: Black Widow.

The long overdue character film focuses on the fan favorite Natasha Romanov and pits her against Task Master in an adventure that is shaping up to be a spiritual successor to 2014’s Captain America: Winter Soldier. However, Natasha Romanov will not be taking on this masked villain alone as she calls upon old allies: Red Guardian (played by David Harbour), former Black Widow Protege, Yelena Belova (played by Florence Pugh), and an undisclosed former meantor from the Red Room (played by Rachel Weisz). Together this team of old Soviet warriors are taking on Task Master and an army of newly trained Black Widows. This film is expected to be a major win for the studio and with May 1st being so close in sight, the concerns felt by the company over its proximity to this pandemic seems to have indeed affected it’s release.

According to Industry News Site, C Net, Disney has postponed the release, from its May 1st slot, to an undisclosed date (presumably after concerns about the virus have been dealt with). This would make Black Widow the third Disney produced film along with the live action Reboot of Mulan and New Mutants to be delayed from release in the past week.

While there is a lot of speculation as to how this delay will affect the upcoming slate of films, all we know for now is that this delay is in both the film’s and the public’s best interest, as the governments across the world try and get a hold on this pandemic. So until then, stay safe, wash your hands, and try not to touch your face! When everything has blown over, we can be sure that Black Widow will be waiting for us in theaters, and we can enjoy it having come over yet another global hardship!

At birth, the Black Widow (aka Natasha Romanova) is given to the KGB, which grooms her to become its ultimate operative. When the U.S.S.R. breaks up, the government tries to kill her as the action moves to present-day New York, where she is a freelance operative.
