The Winds of Change In The DC Universe: DCEU Justice League Actors Not Expected To Return For The DCU

Earlier this year, the DC Universe fanbase was buzzing with the confirmation of David Corenswet taking over the iconic role of Superman from Henry Cavill for the much-anticipated movie, Superman: Legacy. With James Gunn helming both the writing and directing duties, expectations are sky-high.

Yet, as the DC Universe expands and evolves, a cloud of mystery hangs over the fate of several beloved characters. The who’s who of Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg, and Flash remains, for now, a tantalizing question mark.

Recent insights from Variety highlight an intriguing twist in the saga: none of Zack Snyder’s cast from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice or Justice League will reprise their roles in the revamped DC Universe. While speculation runs rife, it’s whispered that Jason Momoa might return, albeit in a strikingly different avatar as Lobo. This shift further muddies the waters following Gal Gadot’s announcement about reprising and co-developing Wonder Woman 3 with Gunn and Safran.

Amidst this reshuffling, some familiar faces will be making a return. Xolo Maridueña is set to dazzle us again as Blue Beetle, while Viola Davis will reprise her formidable role as Suicide Squad’s Amanda Waller in the upcoming Max series, Waller. And of course, John Cena’s Peacemaker is gearing up for a second season.

James Gunn’s recent comments on Threads shed some light on the direction of the DC Universe. He explained, “Nothing is canon until [DC Studios animated series] Creature Commandos next year — a sort of aperitif to the DCU — & then a deeper dive into the universe with Superman: Legacy after that.” Gunn adds, “It’s okay to be confused on what’s happening in the DCU since no one has seen anything from the DCU yet.

Change is afoot, and the DC Universe is poised for a fresh era of storytelling. What are your thoughts on these developments? Who are you excited to see return, and who do you think should don the cape and cowl next? Share your thoughts, speculations, and dream castings in comments!
