New York Comic Con 2026 is officially underway, and Marvel Television has already delivered one of the convention’s first major surprises. During its Marvel Television and Marvel Animation panel on Thursday, October 8, the studio announced Zodiac, an upcoming live-action series that will expand its television lineup on Disney+.
Brad Winderbaum, Head of Marvel Television, Animation, Comics & Franchise, revealed the project during the presentation at the Javits Center in New York City. While Marvel is keeping much of the series under wraps, Winderbaum confirmed that Zodiac will be a spy thriller, with production scheduled to begin in London in spring 2027.
The series is currently targeting a 2028 premiere on Disney+, with casting expected to begin within the next several weeks.
What Is Marvel’s Zodiac?
Although Marvel has not officially revealed the storyline or characters involved in the upcoming series, the title has significant connections to the company’s comic book history.
In Marvel Comics, Zodiac is the name associated with a criminal organization whose members adopt identities inspired by the twelve astrological signs. The group has appeared in multiple incarnations over the years, frequently operating behind the scenes through elaborate criminal schemes and attempts to manipulate powerful institutions.
One of the organization’s most notable leaders is Cornelius van Lunt, a wealthy businessman who operates under the identity of Taurus. Throughout its comic book history, Zodiac has crossed paths with several Marvel heroes, including the Avengers.
However, Marvel has not confirmed whether the Disney+ series will directly adapt the organization, focus on individual characters associated with the Zodiac name, or introduce an entirely new interpretation within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
A Mysterious Logo Could Hold Clues
Alongside the announcement, Marvel Television unveiled the official logo for Zodiac, featuring metallic lettering against a black background.
The design incorporates several distinctive symbols and geometric patterns, including elements that appear reminiscent of the imagery associated with S.H.I.E.L.D.
Winderbaum teased that the logo contains hidden details for fans familiar with Marvel Comics, suggesting that the design itself may offer clues about the series.
That has already raised an intriguing possibility: Could Zodiac explore the MCU’s espionage world and potentially revisit organizations such as S.H.I.E.L.D.?
For now, any connection to S.H.I.E.L.D. remains speculation, but the series’ confirmed spy-thriller direction leaves plenty of room for intrigue.
Marvel Television Expands Its Disney+ Lineup
The announcement comes as Marvel Television continues developing its next generation of streaming projects.
With VisionQuest arriving on Disney+ on October 14 and additional Marvel animated projects in development, Zodiac represents another addition to the studio’s future television plans.
The spy-thriller approach could also offer Marvel an opportunity to explore a different corner of the MCU, moving away from traditional superhero storytelling and leaning into covert operations, conspiracies, and political intrigue.
Marvel has previously explored espionage through projects such as Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Secret Invasion, making Zodiac an interesting addition to that side of its storytelling universe.
Whether the series introduces a new group of villains, brings familiar characters back into the spotlight, or establishes an entirely different direction remains to be seen.
When Will Zodiac Premiere?
Marvel Television’s Zodiac is currently scheduled to premiere exclusively on Disney+ in 2028.
Filming is expected to begin in London in spring 2027, with additional casting and production details anticipated in the coming months.
With New York Comic Con continuing through Sunday, October 11, fans can expect more announcements and updates from across the entertainment industry throughout the weekend.
