A tidal wave of nostalgia is set to wash over fans as Disney Branded Television, in collaboration with Sony Pictures Television, announces the chilling reboot of Goosebumps, debuting on Disney+ and Hulu on Friday, October 13th. This spine-chilling day will also see a special showcase of the series at the famed New York Comic Con, granting fans an exclusive peek into the series.
Drawing inspiration from R.L. Stine’s iconic and worldwide bestselling Scholastic book series, this new adaptation immerses audiences in the eerie town of Port Lawrence. Here, five high school students unravel grim secrets associated with the mysterious demise of a teen, Harold Biddle, three decades prior. A Halloween party gone awry at the old Biddle house thrusts these teens into a haunted realm. Now united by fate, they must unravel the town’s supernatural mysteries while discovering truths about their families and themselves.
The series will reanimate elements from beloved tales like Say Cheese and Die!, The Haunted Mask, The Cuckoo Clock of Doom, Go Eat Worms!, and Night of the Living Dummy, evoking the spine-tingling sensation familiar to fans.
In a direct statement, Ayo Davis, president of Disney Branded Television, expressed, “R.L. Stine’s Goosebumps franchise is a pop culture phenomenon that holds a special place in the hearts of people of all ages. We are delighted to bring this spooky new series to audiences everywhere on Disney+ and Hulu, combining elevated thrills and chills to captivate new audiences and enthrall lifelong fans nostalgic for stories that are a staple of their generation.”
Audiences can look forward to a five-episode premiere, a nod to Disney+’s “Hallowstream” and Hulu’s “Huluween” festivities. Weekly episodes will follow this grand launch. Additionally, viewers can catch the first two episodes on Freeform on October 13th, dovetailing with its “31 Nights of Halloween” lineup.
The original neon-clad Goosebumps novels were a mainstay for young readers in the ’90s, leading to a successful TV series and subsequently gracing the big screen with two films.
The reimagined series boasts a star-studded cast with Justin Long (Barbarian) as Mr. Bratt and Rachael Harris (Lucifer) as Nora. Newcomers include Zack Morris Morris (EastEnders) as Isaiah and Isa Briones (Star Trek: Picard) as Margot, alongside Miles McKenna, Ana Yi Puig (Guilty Party), and Will Price (The Equalizer).
This project bears the hallmark of seasoned veterans with Nicholas Stoller (The Muppets) and Rob Letterman (Pokémon Detective Pikachu) helming its development. A roster of esteemed executive producers like Hilary Winston (Community) and Neal H. Moritz (Fast & Furious franchise) have lent their expertise.
For ardent fans planning a visit to the New York Comic Con, the Main Stage at the Javitz Center is the place to be on Friday, October 13, between 3:00-4:00pm ET. The Goosebumps team will unveil a screening, followed by a riveting Q&A with Executive Producers Pavun Shetty (The Boys) and Conor Welch (Platonic).
Mark your calendars for a hair-raising experience as Goosebumps promises a nostalgic yet fresh journey into the world of the supernatural. Prepare for the chills!
