Sony Picks Up Rights for Harlem Hellfighters Film

HellfightersOne of the most critically acclaimed military units of the First World War are getting a film based on a graphic novel.

Sony Pictures has purchased the rights to the graphic novel Harlem Hellfighters by Max Brooks, author of World War Z. Now it’s very important to recognize that the Harlem Hellfighters were very much real and they were actually called the 369th African American Regiment that was under the command of the French Fourth Army on the Western Front during the First World War. They would see 191 days of combat action that led the Germans to call them “Harlem Hellfighters.”

Caleeb Pinkett and James Lassiter are producing the film on the behalf of Overbrook Entertainment under the leadership of Will Smith.

Now I am a HUGE US military buff and military history buff in general and have intentions to join the US Army eventually so this made me very excited to discover that these brave soldiers were getting some justice in a movie. They were a very respectable unit after the war. I actually really enjoyed the graphic novel as well and I strongly suggest you check it or just do some research into the 369th to see what exactly you’ll get to see on the big screen.
