Tatum To Possibly Ditch Gambit Film

Uh-oh!  20th Century Fox’s Gambit film may be in some hot water as their deal with Channing Tatum begins to unravel as he makes plans to drop out of the movie.

The studio was currently in the long process of finding a talented young actress to star alongside Tatum, including Leo Seydoux, but several studio insiders have begun to suggest that director Rupert Wyatt  is going to need to begin searching for a new leading male actor for the role of Remy “Gambit” LaBeau.

Currently, it is unclear whether Tatum and his producer Reid Carolin plan to remain involvement in the film in a production capacity, or whether Simon Kinberg and Lauren Shuler Donner will continue forward with the film on their own.

At this moment, representatives for 20th Century Fox and Channing Tatum could not be immediately reached for further comment.

One inside individual working close to the project told several sources that Tatum’s reps are currently still in active discussions with the studio but acknowledged that “something was up.” This is a very dangerous predicament that the studio is currently in and it has to be resolved quickly due to the fact that Gambit is slated to release on October, 7, 2016.

Tatum recently made an appearance at San Diego Comic Con 2016 to hype up fans for his turn at playing the Ragin’ Cajun. The character was originally portrayed by Taylor Kitsch in Gavin Hood’s 2009 X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

Gambit has been a longtime passion project for Tatum, whose attachment provided 20th Century Fox with the motivation to further ramp up the production. However, Tatum also clearly has larger ambitions which may be the reason he could be pulling out from the film.

One other probable cause that has been discussed in an interview with Grantland is that Tatum’s partner Carolin are planning to make their dual directorial debut soon, so it’s very possible that the star’s desire to work behind the camera instead of in front of it is possibly a leading factor in his decision.
