October 16th, 2023 – This past weekend at New York Comic Con attendees witnessed an unexpected delight during the Star Trek Universe Panel when Scott Mescudi, popularly known as Kid Cudi, made a surprise appearance, announcing his exclusive partnership with Star Trek’s Boldly Be campaign.
The event, held at a packed room, was steered by the talented Josh Horowitz, recognized for his contributions to MTV News and his role as the host of the podcast, Happy Sad Confused. Horowitz set the stage by introducing Alex Kurtzman, the Executive Producer steering the Star Trek franchise, who presented never-before-seen footage that gave insights into Kid Cudi’s involvement with Star Trek.
But the real shocker came when Kurtzman introduced Kid Cudi himself. In a moderated conversation, Cudi expressed his fondness for Star Trek, a love he inherited from his father, and discussed the intricacies of the collaboration. This partnership is expansive, featuring a capsule streetwear collection, a new single titled Heaven’s Galaxy, and an immersive Fortnite gaming experience.
Moreover, attendees were treated to an exclusive screening of a new episode from the current season of Star Trek: Lower Decks, a hit Paramount+ animated comedy series. The screening was followed by an engaging conversation with Alex Kurtzman and Mike McMahan, the series’ Executive Producer.
The Star Trek: Lower Decks season four is a product of several renowned production companies and creators, including CBS’ Eye Animation Productions, Secret Hideout, and Roddenberry Entertainment, with Mike McMahan, Aaron Baiers, Alex Kurtzman, Rod Roddenberry, Trevor Roth, and Katie Krentz at the helm. The series is animated by the award-winning studio, Titmouse.
Post-panel, Kid Cudi continued to enchant fans with a visit to the official Star Trek x Kid Cudi booth at the Javits show floor.
The Boldly Be campaign, launched on October 12th to coincide with the start of New York Comic Con, champions the Star Trek ethos of IDIC (Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combinations). This Vulcan philosophy underscores the beauty, truth, and strength that arises from vast diversity. The campaign was marked by the release of Kid Cudi’s Star Trek-inspired song, Heaven’s Galaxy. Fans got a glimpse of this collaboration at booth 2653, which displayed the capsule collection and provided a sneak peek into the Fortnite gaming experience.
Kid Cudi’s single Heaven’s Galaxy is a testament to his deep-rooted fandom of Star Trek. Crafted by Cudi and produced by his long-term collaborator, Dot Da Genius, the track is now accessible on all major streaming platforms.
