Fox Confirms X-Men Television Series

XMEN

Gather around, true believers! Fox has begun to take it’s development on a new X-Men television series to the next level for any of those die-hard X-Fans out there. The Hollywood Reporter has learned that during the Television Critics Association press tour that Fox is currently coming close to finalizing a deal to bring the X-Men to television in a live-action series.

“[For] X-Men, we’re in negotiations with Marvel. We’re hopeful we’ll be able to announce something soon. We’re not closed on a deal yet but it’s something we’re definitely pursuing,” said Fox Television Group chairman and CEO Dana Walden.

THR’s article does state that Fox hopes to announce something for the show soon, with Walden adding that the intention is to produce a “long running” series with the franchise and not a limited series run like the upcoming Prison Break and X-Files series. Currently, the potential series has been able to get Star Trek Beyond screenwriters Patrick McKay and J.D. Payne attached, as well as 24‘s Evan Katz and Manny Cho, who will be the showrunners for the possible series.

While Fox’s big screen counterpart 20th Century Fox owns the film rights for Marvel’s X-Men characters, the article does state that the TV studio would have to begin negotiations with Marvel in order to use the characters on television. As most people know  the rights for the characters when it comes to TV is not as simple as it would be for a film; many X-Men characters, like Wolverine and Deadpool, have appeared on Marvel’s currently-airing cartoons, for example.

“The characters from the X-Men franchise are with Fox on the feature side so we won’t be including Marvel characters that are at ABC with Disney,” clarified Walden. “This will be exclusively the franchise as it has existed at Fox.”

What do you think about the idea of an X-Men TV show? What do you theorize it is about? Do you think it will come to fruition and actually happen? Let us know in the comment section below, geeks!
