The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 3 Trailer Debuts at SDCC, Premieres Nov. 11

SAN DIEGO — Prime Video returned to Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con on Friday with the first teaser trailer for Season 3 of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, while unveiling new cast members, revealing Simon Pegg as the voice of the Balrog, and confirming the fantasy series will return on Nov. 11.

The presentation brought together showrunners J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay, along with cast members Cynthia Addai-Robinson, Owain Arthur, Ismael Cruz Córdova, Charlie Vickers, Daniel Weyman, and Season 3 newcomer Jamie Campbell Bower. Actor Benjamin Walker, who portrays High King Gil-galad, moderated the discussion before thousands of fans inside Hall H.

The newly released teaser sets the stage for a darker chapter in the series as Sauron’s campaign to dominate Middle-earth escalates. With the Dark Lord’s influence spreading across the land, the trailer previews large-scale battles, new alliances, and the beginning of Sauron’s quest to forge the One Ring.

Prime Video also introduced several new additions to the Season 3 cast.

Eddie Marsan (Happy-Go-Lucky) joins the series as Thrain, the older brother of King Durin IV. Andrew Richardson (Guys & Dolls) will portray Anarion, Elendil’s younger son and Isildur’s brother, while Adam Young (Don’t Breathe 2) takes on the role of Marnûkh, a mysterious Orc whose motivations remain unclear.

The new cast members join previously announced additions Jamie Campbell Bower, who will portray Celeborn, and Zubin Varla, who has been cast as Khamûl the Easterling.

One of the panel’s biggest reveals came during an exclusive behind-the-scenes featurette showcasing the creatures of Season 3. Fans learned that the Balrog will speak for the first time in the series, with Simon Pegg providing the creature’s voice. The preview also highlighted several of the creatures appearing throughout the new season, including Fell-beasts, Mûmakil, Orcs, and the Balrog itself.

Hall H attendees were also treated to a surprise live moment when four armored Nazgnagôl entered the stage during the presentation. Introduced as ring-servants of Sauron in the Second Age, the characters represent an earlier incarnation of the Nazgûl that fans know from The Lord of the Rings.

According to Prime Video, Season 3 picks up five years after the fall of Eregion. Sauron’s armies have continued their conquest across Middle-earth while Khazad-dûm remains sealed behind its mountain gates and the Elven kingdoms of Lindon and Rivendell stand protected by the Three Rings. From his fortress of Barad-dûr, Sauron works to complete the One Ring, forcing the peoples of Middle-earth to unite against a growing threat.

The first four episodes of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 3 premiere Nov. 11 on Prime Video, followed by Episodes 5 and 6 on Nov. 18. The final two episodes of the season will debut on Nov. 25.
