On February 29th, 2020, the city of Mexicali hosted their annual AiLoveAnime convention. A convention with the theme of love and friendship behind it. There were bracelets available in three different colors to represent if you were single, taken, or looking for friends. The convention took place in the same place where OtakuDay takes place. You can check out the coverage of last year’s OtakuDay here. You can also check out the video I filmed about AiLoveAnime here.
Vendors & Artists:
Right above is ‘Frix Place‘, a store with an actual location in the city that sells shirts, socks, apparel, etc., I spoke with the shopkeeper and had a friendly conversation about the place and our brand. You can find out more about the shop on their Facebook page here.
The top picture is from Mysterra, a place that focuses on medieval style products. Based in Tijuana, you can check out their Facebook page here. In the middle picture are ‘Los Guerreros Del Sol‘, a softcombat group that helps and lets you practice combat with weaponry. Check out their Facebook page here. Finally, the bottom picture is quite the chef, geeky goodies made by the peeps over at ‘Tochtli Chocolateria‘ You can check out their Facebook page here.
Sadly, I wasn’t able to catch the name of the shops from the first two pictures, but the last one with the comics is called ‘Mapy World’, a shop that also has a physical location where they sell comics, manga, accessories, etc. You can check them out on Facebook here.
Studio Pop showed up to hear local talent for doing casting to get into the voice dubbing industry
Videogame tournament as well
VR
The last two images were local talent from the city. They were doing commissions at the convention such as drawing you in anime style and selling some work as well. Also, I encountered someone promoting their podcast on the site. Their podcast name is ‘Control Bits VG‘ and I believe they mentioned they were on Spotify or Anchor.fm
Cosplayers:
Once again, I had the pleasure of catching up with none other than Yuulex Cosplay! The dynamic duo cosplay from the heart of Mexicali were guests at the convention. Hopefully next time I’ll have the opportunity to do a small interview with them. Check them out on Facebook here and their Instagram here.
As always, the ambient and environment was friendly, the cosplayers were nice and I enjoyed exploring the convention, this time alone due to a last minute departure. Although I couldn’t cover everything as I stayed for a short time, I did film a video to get a glimpse of it in more detail. Below is the video where you can see the event along with a little bit of a karaoke. Next time, I hope to cover more ground in the next convention I attend, and, of course, talk to the people there to get more opinions, interviews, and give a more authentic feel.
